Johannesburg – Two 14-year-old boys were arrested in Vereeniging on Wednesday in connection with a hijacking in which the car owner was tied up and set alight, Gauteng police said.
The driver of the car was found tied up, badly assaulted and set alight on the side of the Kliprivier road on Tuesday night, Captain Mega Ndobe said.
He died before an ambulance could arrive.
The boys were arrested at about 11:30 in De Deur and would face charges of robbery and murder.
Their arrest came after an 18-year-old man was arrested in Katlehong earlier on Wednesday for allegedly being in possession of an Audi that belonged to the deceased.
Patrolling policemen spotted the Audi A4, which was being traced by a tracking company, being driven by the 18-year-old.
They arrested him for possession of a stolen vehicle and found the dead man’s cellphone inside the vehicle.
The man will face charges of hijacking and murder.
Ndobe said the dead man’s name would be withheld until all his relatives had been informed.
